Thermal Transfer Ribbons

Thermal Transfer Ribbons are used only in Thermal Transfer Printers. The features are

Polyester Base Film.
Not Reusable.
Economical.

Basically there are three types of Thermal Transfer Ribbons viz

Wax

Wax /Resin

Resin.

Thermal Transfer Printing is done with two types of print heads Flat-Type print heads and Near Edge (True Edge, Corner Edge) print heads. Ribbons used for these two thermal transfer printing technologies are different though the types may be the same.

Wax : Inexpensive, mostly used for indoor applications like chemist shops

Wax / Resin : Long Life And Good Resistance.

Resin : For Harsh Environments Extreme Conditions And Long Life.

Wax Ribbons

Used for printing on Paper Labels such as Chromo, TT2C, etc.
Very economical.
Require very low temperature for printing that increases life of the print head.
Can be used for general purpose labeling,shipping labels, address labels, garment tags, price tickets, warehouse applications, compliance label printing, including shelf and bin labels, retail tag and label applications.
Do not have smudge & scratch resistance.
Not Suitable for printing on Polyester or film material.

Wax / Resin Ribbons

Combination of Wax & Resin substance coating. Resin percentage higher than wax.
Used for printing on paper labels such as chromo TT2C, garment tags, Glossy smooth surfaces, Synthetic materials.
Require a certain higher temperature for getting better printing results.
Labels printed by Wax/Resin Ribbons have Smudge & Scratch resistance. So, most of the times used for labeling on export goods where handling & period of transit is more.
Resin Ribbons contain the highest percentage of Resin substance.
Have a higher melting point. So, the require the highest temperature for printing with best results.
Used for printing on Polyester, synthetic, taffeta, satin (specially for Garment labels), Destructible Vinyl, Warranty Void Labels, which are exposed to harsh environment, liquids like Isopropyl Alcohol, Spirits,etc.
The most expensive ribbons.
